WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. – Call it Freedom of Speech. A billboard recently erected in Wheat Ridge compares President Barack Obama to a terrorist and questions his U.S. citizenship.

Anti-Obama billboard at 4855 Miller Street in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.The billboard, located at 4855 Miller Road, shows two cartoonish images of Obama wearing a Muslim turban and reads “PRESIDENT or JIHAD?”It also says “BIRTH CERTIFICATE – PROVE IT!” alluding to the conspiracy theory which claims Barack Obama was born in Kenya rather than Hawaii, which would disqualify him for the office of President.
The words “WAKE UP AMERICA! REMEMBER FT. HOOD!” appear on the bottom of the billboard.
The sign belongs to a car dealership.
“Since Fort Hood, I’ve had it,” owner Phil West told FOX 31 News Friday. “You can’t suggest things. You can’t profile. You gotta call a spade a spade.”
“Everything I have read about Mr. Obama points right to the fact that he is a Muslim. And that is the agenda of what Muslim is all about. It’s about anti-American, it’s about anti-Christianity,” West said.
The Anti-Defamation League condemned the sign, as did AM760 radio host David Sirota, who discussed the sign and interviewed West on his program Friday morning.
“It’s out of control,” Sirota said. “This conservative hatred of Barack Obama is out of contol, and this brings together all those strands of it: the racism, the anti-Muslim fervor. It’s one thing to criticise the president on health care, or Wall Street reform, or immigration. But this is outrageous. And I think it’s a fair question to ask why these questions about religion and ancestry are being directed so viciously at the first African-American President of the United States.”
While the ADL issued a statement calling the billboard an exploitation of the Ft. Hood shootings that is “divisive and offensive, and perpetuates hateful and harmful stereotypes about Muslims”, prominent conservatives have been silent thus far.
“That could suggest that conservative leaders are afraid to confront the extreme fringe of their base,” Sirota said. “Or it suggests they actually condone this message. Either way, it’s disturbing.”
Sirota is an unabashed liberal, but not all self-identified conservatives who drove past the sign Friday disagree with him.
“I’m not concerned with that at all,” said Linda Alexander, of Golden, in regard to the dispute over President Obama’s American citizenship. “He was elected, he’s the president — that’s it, as far as I’m concerned. Some people just can’t accept that, obviously.”
But Keith Walters, another passing driver, saw nothing wrong with the billboard.
“I can’t honestly say he’s a Jihadist, but there’s a lot of things that are questionable,” Walters said. “The whole birth certificate controversy. From what I’ve read, there’s no proof Obama isn’t a Muslim. And I don’t believe there’s any racism [in the billboard]. I think that should be a question asked to any president who — they have some questionable backgrounds.”

Zeituni Onyango, had fled Boston to stay with relatives in Cleveland last fall after media attention erupted over her case. She was spotted at Obama’s inaugural festivities in January and, according to neighbors, returned to Boston a few weeks ago for her third attempt to fight removal from the United States. She had been living in the country illegally since she was ordered deported in 2004.
Now the woman Obama called “Auntie Zeituni” is in a national spotlight, where her case is seen as a test of the Obama admin istration’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws. Critics, outraged that she is living in taxpayer-funded public housing while thousands of citizens and legal immigrants are on waiting lists, are scrutinizing the case for political favoritism.
“The case is unusual in American history because it’s a relative of the president involved in immigration matters,” said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Washington-based Center for Immigration Studies. “It really does present the White House with an opportunity or a minefield. If they follow through on a decision that she should go home, that would actually raise the president’s credibility enormously on immigration enforcement.”
Obama has said that he has not had any involvement in the case and that it should run its ordinary course, White House spokesman Ben LaBolt said.
Onyango’s fate will play out behind closed doors before Judge Leonard Shapiro in Boston. Onyango’s lawyer, Margaret Wong of Ohio, successfully argued to reopen her case in December and have the proceedings closed to the public, according to the Executive Office for Immigration Review, which oversees immigration courts.
Onyango declined two requests for interviews in recent days, and told a reporter to stop wasting her time.
Wong has not responded to repeated requests for comment. But her spokesman told the Cleveland Plain Dealer in January that Onyango would present new evidence to back an asylum claim. Onyango has lost several attempts to fight deportation, said immigration court spokeswoman Elaine Komis. In 2003, a judge ordered her to leave the country, and she lost on appeal. She tried again, but an immigration judge ordered her deported in October 2004. Komis would not confirm whether Onyango had sought asylum before now because, she said, asylum cases are confidential.
Shapiro, an immigration judge since 1990, rejected 68 percent of asylum requests from 2002 to 2007, higher than the state and national averages, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University. Asylum seekers must show that they fear persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a social group.
Still, immigration lawyers said she has a chance because she managed to get a hearing.
Onyango is a half-sister of the president’s late father, Barack Obama Sr., who was absent most of Obama’s life and who died in a car accident in 1982. The president met his aunt during a trip to Kenya in 1988 and included her in his 1995 memoir, “Dreams from My Father,” but has said he was unaware of her immigration issues.
Onyango, then a computer programmer, served as a translator, storyteller, and guide during his Kenya trip.She came to the United States illegally in 2000 to sponge off of her Nephew Obama. Though she was ordered deported in 2004, she remained in the United States undetected until just before Election Day.
Aida Ramos, a neighbor, most likely a mexican illegal himself says Auntie is like many foreign nationals who use the system to suck americans dry. Americans are so stupid, he says, they give away everything. Why not take?

Zeituni Onyango, the Kenyan aunt of President Obama, emerged this morning
after a brief, closed-door hearing in US Immigration Court in Boston and
smiled broadly.
Judge Leonard I. Shapiro continued Onyango’s case until Feb. 4, 2010,
which allowed her to stay in the United States until at least that date,
according to Fatimah Mateen, a spokesperson for the court.
“Ms. Onyango’s case is being treated just like any other case before an
immigration judge,” Mateen said.
Onyango plans to apply for permanent residency in the United States,
according to Mike Rogers, a spokesman for Onyango’s lawyers, whose legal
strategy remains unclear.
The half-sister of Obama’s late father had applied for asylum in the past
but lost. Since then, she has been living illegally in the United States,
most recently in a South Boston public housing development.
She had arrived in the United States in 2000 seeking a better life and
later applied for asylum.
In 2003, a judge ordered her to leave the country, but she stayed. Later
that year, she tried to stay again. But she lost the appeal, and an
immigration judge ordered her deported in October 2004.
Instead, Onyango remained in Boston and lived in state and federal public
housing. Critics have denounced her for defying deportation and for
living in public housing while scores of families are on waiting lists.
