An Idaho man is in critical condition following a Wednesday night crash south of Jordan Valley after he nearly hit an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper’s patrol car before traveling off Highway 95 and rolling several times. The ongoing investigation indicates alcohol is a possible contributing factor.On July 1, 2009 at approximately 11:33 p.m., OSP Trooper Kurt Marvin was patrolling northbound on Highway 95 near milepost 46 when he spotted a vehicle traveling southbound towards his patrol car at a high rate of speed. Trooper Marvin obtained a speed reading of 82 mph in a 55 mph speed zone, slowed down to turn and stop the vehicle when it suddenly swerved into the northbound lane. Trooper Marvin swerved to avoid a collision and the vehicle nearly sideswiped the patrol car’s passenger side before traveling off the highway and rolling several times.

Trooper Marvin stopped and quickly exited his patrol car, finding an unconscious male lying on the ground in front of the vehicle. A brief area search for other occupants didn’t find anyone else so he started providing medical aid while awaiting emergency medical responders.

After about one hour a Jordan Valley ambulance and Air St. Luke’s medical helicopter arrived on scene. The critically injured unidentified driver was taken by air to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho.

Follow up ongoing investigation on Thursday confirmed the man’s identity as ENRIQUE CASAS VALDEZ, age 41, from Kuna, Idaho. The man’s next of kin have been notified.

The driver of a Nissian Pickup rolled his truck after he failed to negotiate a curve. The passenger was injured and the driver fled in foot. The driver was later found by a K9 team.Details of Event:
On Thursday, May 07, 2009, at about 8:00 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a crash in the 8000 block of NW Roy Road in the unincorporated Community of Roy. Deputies found an overturned red 1997 Nissan pickup truck near a creek. There had been two occupants in the truck, the passenger was still at the scene and the driver had fled on foot.A Sheriff’s Office K9 team was called to search for the driver, 30-year-old Alejandro Calixto-Mandujano from Hillsboro.
 He was later found by the K9 hiding nearby. Mr. Calixto-Mandujano was taken to Emanuel Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger in the truck, 26-year-old Luis Morea-Vasquez from Hillsboro, was also taken to Emanuel Hospital with not-life-threatening injuries.The Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) responded to investigate the crash. Investigators determined that Mr. Calixto-Mandujano was driving in excess of 70MPH and was unable to negotiate the curve. Deputies also suspect that he had been drinking. He will be charged with DUII, Assault IV, Driving While Suspended, Hit and Run Felony, and Reckless Driving.

Mr. Morea-Vasquez had a warrant for his arrest for Driving While Suspended, he will be arrested when he released from the hospital

On 4-5-09, just after 7:00 pm, a Marion County Deputy observed a silver Chrysler 300, driving recklessly on Silverton Road. The vehicle turned eastbound onto Silverton Road from Lancaster at about 70 miles per hour. Deputy Jason Bernards observed the vehicle weaving in and out of traffic, forcing several vehicles off the road and causing them to swerve into oncoming lanes to avoid a collision. Deputy Bernards caught up with the vehicle and activated lights and siren but the driver refused to stop and accelerated to approximately 60 miles per hour. The suspect turned south onto Brown Road and then east on Carolina Ave. However, as he attempted to make the turn onto Carolina he struck the curb with the passenger front tire and slowed down to about 3 miles per hour. Smoke started coming from the vehicle and it eventually came to a stop in the 4600 block of Carolina Ave NE.

After the vehicle came to a stop, a 9 year old boy exited from the passenger side of the vehicle and ran toward the deputies. They were not aware the child was in the vehicle until that time but he appeared to be afraid and glad to be out of the vehicle. The suspect, later identified as Martin Gonzalez-Soria, (6-25-63) of Salem, was taken into custody and charged with Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Elude and he was transported to the Marion County Jail.

On 3-29-09, just after 9:00 am the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a single vehicle crash in the 10800 Block of Monitor-McKee Road. When deputies arrived they observed a red 2005 Ford Focus approximately 100 feet down an embankment and partially submerged in the Pudding River. A Hispanic male with obvious injuries was outside of the car and appeared to be fading in and out of consciousness. Mt. Angel and Woodburn Fire and Rescue personnel made their way down the embankment to the driver, later identified as 18 year old Tello-Montes, Luis Alberto (12-13-90), of Silverton. Life Flight was activated and Tello-Montes was transported to OHSU with non-life threatening injuries. The subsequent investigation by Sheriff’s Deputies indicated Tello-Montes had attended a party the night before on Dominic Road in Mt. Angel, taken the car without permission from the party sometime between midnight and 8:15 am, and then crashed. Deputies cited Tello-Montes at OHSU on charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants.
