HILLSBORO — Three students at Liberty High School have been charged in an October gang shooting.

Miguel Reyes Gonzales and Ezequiel Santos Gomez, both 16, and Carlos Peguero Villa, 17, have been charged with attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon against another.

The three teens were arraigned last week in connection with the Oct. 11 shooting and are being held in the Washington County Jail on $250,000 bail each. Their preliminary hearings are set for Wednesday in Washington County Circuit Court, at which time the charges may be amended.

All three told police they were members of the 13th Street gang, said Lt. Michael Rouches, spokesman for the Hillsboro Police Department. They were arrested after Gonzales allegedly shot Fermin Mandujano-Marin, 22, of Hillsboro.

Rouches said Gonzales had been shopping in the 1000 block of Southeast Walnut Street and was on the sidewalk a couple blocks away, making gang signs with his hands, when Mandujano-Marin drove by.

Rouches said Mandujano-Marin was a member of the rival 18th Street Tiny Winos Sureno gang. He walked up to Gonzales and asked why he was making the gang signs, Rouches said.

Gonzales allegedly responded by shooting Mandujano-Marin in the thigh with a .32 caliber semi-automatic pistol. Rouches said the slug didn’t cause serious damage because it didn’t strike bone or sever a vein or artery. Gomez and Villa are thought to have served as “lookouts,” Rouches said.

“They were looking for an 18th Street gang member to shoot or fight with,” Rouches said. “They were looking for trouble and they found it.”

House approves offshore drilling
By H. JOSEF HEBERT,The House voted late Tuesday to open waters off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts to oil and gas drilling but only 50 or more miles out to sea and only if a state agrees to energy development off its shore.
Democratic leaders called it a step toward energy independence, but Republicans labeled it a “sham” because most of the estimated 18 billion barrels of oil believed to lie below off-limits coastal waters are within 50 miles of land and will remain out of bounds.
The measure passed in a largely party-line vote of 236-189. It now goes to the Senate, where energy will be the topic later in the week. Thirteen Democrats bucked their leadership and voted against the measure.
Even before the House vote, the White House said President Bush was prepared to veto the measure should it reach his desk. An administration statement said the bill would “stifle development” of offshore energy resources by essentially making permanent drilling bans within the 50-mile coastal buffer, while imposing new taxes on the largest oil companies.
But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said the bill “represents a new direction in energy policy” and a “bold step forward that will end our dependence on foreign oil” by using billions of dollars collected in taxes on large oil companies to promote alternative fuels and energy efficiency.
Republicans called the drilling measure a ruse to provide political cover to Democrats feeling pressure to support more drilling at a time of high gas prices.
“How much new drilling do we get out of this bill? It’s zero. Just zero,” declared House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio. “It’s a hoax on the American people. This is intended for one reason … so the Democrats can say we voted on energy.”
The measure would allow drilling in waters 50 miles from shore almost everywhere from New England to Washington state as long as a state agrees to go along with energy development off its coast. Beyond 100 miles, no state approval would be required. The drilling ban would remain in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
Each year for the past 26 years, Congress has passed drilling bans on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts because of environmental concerns and pressure from some coastal states worried that drilling might hurt the tourist business.
Unlike bills offered by House Republicans and others being considered in the Senate, the House-passed legislation would not share royalties from energy production with the adjacent states. Boehner said without royalty sharing, states probably would not opt for drilling off their beaches.
Republicans also cited Interior Department estimates that 88 percent of the 18 billion barrels of oil believed to be in waters now under drilling bans would remain off-limits because they are within the 50-mile protective coastal buffer.
The House voted to roll back nearly $18 billion in tax breaks over 10 years for the five largest oil companies and require energy companies to pay billions of dollars in royalties they avoided because of an Interior Department contracting error.
The bill also would require the president to make available oil from the government’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Pelosi said such a move is needed to drive down gasoline prices, even though oil prices have dropped dramatically in recent weeks and many energy experts believe gasoline prices will fall as well after refineries recover from Hurricane Ike.
Democrats added a provision at the last minute that makes it a federal crime for oil companies with federal leases to provide gifts to government employees, a response to a recent sex and drug scandal involving the federal office that oversees the offshore oil royalty program and energy company employees.
The Democratic bill also would:
_Provide tax credits for wind and solar energy industries, the development of cellulose ethanol and other biofuels.
_Require utilities nationwide to generate 15 percent of their electricity from solar, wind or other alternative energy source.
_Give tax breaks for new energy efficiency programs, including the use of improved building codes and for companies that promote their employees’ use of bicycles for commuting.
Expanded offshore drilling has become a mantra of GOP energy policy that has been felt on the presidential and congressional campaign trails despite wide agreement that lifting the drilling ban would have little if any impact on gasoline prices or produce any oil for years.
Republican presidential candidate John McCain pledged at the recently concluded GOP convention to push for new offshore oil and gas drilling amid delegate chants of “Drill, baby drill” and his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, said he supported more drilling as part of a broader energy package.
But Democrats derided what they called Republicans’ “drill only” response to the country’s energy problems.
“America needs an oil change,” said Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass. “They keep saying on the Republican side, `Drill, baby, drill!’ What we’re saying is `Change, baby, change!’ and they can’t change.

before my google blog was shut down I was going to do another story on Gresham. Seems that Gresham has been taken over by mexican gangs and illegals to the point where they are the majority. How did this happen? because landlords rented to them and the housing on the east side was undesirable and cheap so the Mexicans got a foothold and then began bringing in gangs from Ca. The Gresham mayor thinks an art display needs to be removed because it is attracting crime. Really dense idiot you see, because all Gresham would have to do is pass a really tough ordinance to get rid of the gangs but they won’t do it. Most of the housing should be torn down .

Weekend party turns violent as Gresham police attacked

Police today said 38 officers responded Saturday to a birthday party that turned into a riot, in what Gresham police are saying is the city’s largest melee in almost 20 years.
Police were called about 10:30 p.m. to a fight involving at least 20 men. Officers tried to intervene but were assaulted, and when more officers arrived, the scene worsened.
“It seemed to perpetuate every time our officers arrived,” said Lt. Jeff Hansen, a police spokesman.
The fighting lasted eight minutes until police gained order. Gresham, Portland, Troutdale, Fairview and Multnomah County sheriff’s deputies assisted. Six people were arrested.
“Absolutely amazing,” said Hansen, who added that the city’s last large riot was in the early 1990s.
No serious injuries were reported, though one officer reported being punched in the face and others said they were hit with belt buckles swung by party-goers.
The riot stemmed from a Quinceanera, a celebration for a Latina turning 15. Police said more than 100 people attended the party, and many appeared intoxicated.
The event was held at GSI Community Center, 1493 N.E. Cleveland Ave., where police have been called 20 times in the past 18 months. Officers said they have been assaulted there six times.
At the latest incident, two security guards hired to oversee the party told officers they couldn’t control the crowd.
Police arrested the following on riot-related charges: Baudillo She-Caamal, 26; Luis Aguilar Mis, 38; Erlindo Che-Caamal, 36; Juan Diego Sulub-Trujeque, 38; Armando Che-Caamal, 34; and Francisco Caamal-Perea, 25.
The city hopes to work with the community center to address alcohol concerns.

As to the claim made by ‘robson2501’, all I can say is “Liar”. Your futile attempts at being PC because those involved in the riot were all ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.
This type of behavior isn’t surprising and I’ll guarantee you that the C.C. in question is allowing alchohol ONLY because of the tired PC crowd and their cries of “racisism” if they crack down on the alcohol. Typical of the mentality of The People’s Republik of Portland, in the Motherland of Oregon.
Gresham has turned into one large slum thanks to the allowance of these ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS to congregate there. If the Feds want to crack down, as in other cities and states of recent times, they should start there. But of course, if they did crack down and deport them all, the population of Gresham would drop by AT LEAST 70%.
But you all get what you vote for, so you have no one to blame but yourselves.

The police believe it is an alcohol problem? Hells bells, when are government officials going to wake up and realize it is an illegal immigrant problem. What is sad is that there is so much money in that crowd. I have witnessed these types of Mexican birthday parties on more than one occasion, and there is a ton of money involved (usualy cash). What American can afford to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on a birthday party for a 15 year old girl? Not too many unless they are rich by hard work, or they are rich by criminal activity. It is not an an alcohol problem. Americans will finally wake up to the problem of illegal immigration after it is too late, and major cities looks like Mexico City and Tijuana
